Why Send Articles to Matrix
Matrix is an open, decentralized messaging network — often used through Element — that many privacy-conscious teams and communities rely on. Automatically posting new articles to a Matrix room keeps members informed on the platform they already trust, whether you use matrix.org or run your own homeserver.
Credentials
- Homeserver URL — Your Matrix server (e.g., https://matrix.org). Default: https://matrix.org.
- Access Token — From Element: Settings, Help and About, Advanced, Access Token.
- Room ID — Matrix room ID (e.g., !abc123:matrix.org). Find it in Room Settings, Advanced.
Setup
- In Joomla, go to Components, Mokonyx Social, and add a Matrix service.
- Enter your homeserver URL, access token, and room ID.
- Save and publish the service.
Notes
Messages are sent using PUT with a transaction ID for idempotent delivery. Supports both plain text and HTML formatted messages.
Limits
65,536 characters. Supports full HTML formatting.
Tips for Best Results
- Use the right homeserver — Leave the URL at https://matrix.org unless your account lives on a self-hosted homeserver, in which case enter that server's address.
- Protect your access token — The access token acts on behalf of your account; keep it confidential and regenerate it in Element if it's ever exposed.
- Confirm room membership — The account tied to the access token must be a member of the target room to post messages.
Troubleshooting
If messages don't send, verify the Room ID format (starting with an exclamation mark), that the homeserver URL is correct, and that the access token is valid and belongs to a member of the room.
