How updating works
While you use MokoHub, it periodically checks a secure update feed to see whether a newer version is available. If there is one, MokoHub downloads it in the background. Your work is never interrupted while this happens, and the update is only applied when you choose to restart.
Once a downloaded update is ready, MokoHub shows a small bar near the top of the window reading "A new update for MokoHub is available." with a Restart & install update button.
Installing an update
- When you see the update bar, finish anything you are in the middle of.
- Click Restart & install update.
- MokoHub closes, installs the new version, and reopens automatically. Your services, workspaces, and sign-ins are preserved.
If you are not ready, you can dismiss the bar and keep working. The update stays downloaded and ready, and you can install it later from Settings.
Checking for updates yourself
You do not have to wait for the automatic check. To look for a new version at any time:
- Open Settings.
- Go to the Updates section.
- Click Check for updates.
The Updates section also shows your current version and confirms when you are up to date. If a check finds something, the same Restart & install update option appears.
Turning automatic updates on or off
Automatic updates are on by default, and we recommend leaving them on so you always have the latest fixes and security improvements. If you need to change this:
- Open Settings and go to Updates.
- Use the Automatic updates toggle to turn the feature on or off.
When automatic updates are turned off, MokoHub will not check for or download new versions until you turn the setting back on.
Update channels: stable and early access
MokoHub offers two update tracks. Most people should stay on the standard track, which delivers well-tested releases.
- Standard (stable): The recommended track. You receive updates once they are ready for everyday use.
- Early access (beta): An optional track for people who want to try newer builds sooner. These may occasionally be less polished.
To join the early-access track, open Settings > Updates and turn on the beta toggle (shown when automatic updates are enabled). Turn it off to return to the standard track.
Special cases
A few installation types handle updates differently:
- Linux Snap installs: Updates are managed by the Snap Store. If an update is available, MokoHub will point you to update through Snap rather than installing it in-app.
- Windows portable version: The portable build does not self-install updates. To move to a newer version, download and run the latest portable build.
Managed and organization installs
If your copy of MokoHub was set up by your organization, an administrator may control where updates come from and how often they are checked. In that case the behavior above still applies, but the version you receive is determined centrally so everyone on your team stays in sync. If you are unsure, contact your administrator or support.
If an update does not appear
If a check does not find an update or reports an error, try the following:
- Make sure you are connected to the internet, then click Check for updates again.
- Confirm that Automatic updates is turned on in Settings > Updates.
- If the problem continues, close and reopen MokoHub, then check again.
If you still cannot update, reach out through the Support link so we can help.
