• Applicable Software: MokonyxSocial
  • Min Version Number: 01.03.00 and later
  • Max Version Number: Not Applicable

What you need

  • A Matrix account on a homeserver (like matrix.org, or your own server). A separate bot account just for posting is best.
  • An access token for that account (a secret key — we'll show you where to get it).
  • A room the account has already joined or been invited to.

Get your credentials

Homeserver — homeserver (required)

This is the web address of the Matrix server your account is on.

  1. If your account is on the main public server, it's https://matrix.org.
  2. If you run your own server, use its address, like https://chat.yourdomain.com.
  3. Type it in as https://your-server with no slash at the end.

Access token — access_token (required)

This is the secret key that lets MokonyxSocial post as your bot. Here's the easiest way to find it:

Using Element (the popular Matrix app):

  1. Log in to Element as your bot account.
  2. Click Settings, then Help & About.
  3. Scroll down to the Advanced section and click to reveal the Access Token.
  4. Copy it and paste it into MokonyxSocial.

Heads up: this token belongs to that login session — if you sign that account out of Element, the token stops working. That's exactly why we suggest a dedicated bot account you can leave signed in. (If you're technical, you can instead fetch a token from the Matrix login API, but Element is fine for most people.)

Room ID — room_id (optional)

This tells MokonyxSocial which room to post in.

  1. In Element, open the room, click its name → Room settings → Advanced, and copy the Internal room ID. It looks like !abcdEFGH:matrix.org.
  2. Or you can use the room's friendly address, like #my-room:matrix.org.
  3. Important: your bot account must already be a member of this room (invite it and accept), or the message won't go through.

Set it up in MokonyxSocial

  1. In your Joomla admin, go to Components → MokonyxSocial → Services → New.
  2. Choose Matrix.
  3. Paste in the credentials from above.
  4. Click Send Test to check the connection, then Save & Close and make sure the service is Published.

Verify

  • Send Test should confirm the token works and that your account can reach the room.
  • Publish some content, then open the room in Element — you should see the new message posted by your bot.

Troubleshooting

  • It says the token is unknown or invalid — The token was copied wrong, or the account got signed out (which cancels the token). Grab a fresh one from Element and paste it again.
  • It connects but the message is refused — Your bot isn't in the room, or isn't allowed to post there. Invite the bot to the room, accept, and check the room's permission settings.
  • It can't find the room — Double-check the room ID; use the Internal room ID (starting with !) or the room address (starting with #), not the room's display name.
  • It can't reach the server — Make sure the homeserver address is right and has no trailing slash.

Notes & limits

  • Your bot has to stay in the room. If it gets removed or leaves, posting stops.
  • For encrypted rooms, messages may not be readable by others unless encryption is handled — for announcements, an unencrypted room is the safe choice.
  • Posting very fast may get temporarily slowed by the server.
