Cloning
Clone a repository to work on it locally:
# HTTPS

Forking
Forking creates your own copy of someone else's repository, allowing you to experiment without affecting the original.
- Navigate to the repository you want to fork.
- Click the Fork button in the top-right.
- Select your user account or an organization as the destination.
- Click Fork Repository.
After making changes in your fork, you can submit a pull request back to the original repository.
Working with Branches
Branches let you develop features or fix bugs in isolation from the main codebase.
Create a Branch
# From the command line
git checkout -b feature/my-new-feature
git push -u origin feature/my-new-feature
You can also create branches from the MokoGIT web interface using the branch selector dropdown on the repository page.
Channel-named branches on MokoGIT repositories
MokoGIT's own repositories follow a channel-named branch model instead of a single main branch. The default/production branch is stable, fed by rc (release candidate) and dev (development) in a dev → rc → stable ladder. A release tag may share its channel's name (for example, a stable release tag alongside the stable branch). Your own repositories can keep using main if you prefer — both are fully supported. See MokoGIT: Branch Model & Release Channels for details.
Branch Protection Rules
Repository administrators can protect important branches (like stable or main) by requiring:
- Pull request reviews before merging
- Passing status checks (CI/CD)
- Preventing force pushes
- Restricting who can push directly
Configure branch protection under Settings → Branches in your repository.
Setting the Default Branch
To change the default branch, go to Settings → Branches and select the desired branch from the dropdown. This branch is shown by default when visitors open your repository.
