MokoHub brings all your work services — email, chat, calendars, and more — into a single window. This article explains how notifications reach you, how the built-in check-in rotation nudges you at set times, and how company-wide announcements appear as a banner across the top of the app.
How notifications work
Each service in MokoHub runs in its own private view, just like a separate browser tab. When a service has something new — an unread email, a chat message, an SMS — MokoHub shows a badge with the unread count on that service's tile in the sidebar. You do not have to open a service to know it needs attention.
Behind the scenes, MokoHub checks your services for new activity even when you are not looking at them. How often it checks depends on the priority given to each service:
- High priority — always-on services like email, chat, and messaging. These stay loaded at all times and deliver notifications in real time.
- Normal priority — the default for most services. They quiet down after about 15 minutes of no use to save memory, but MokoHub still checks them for new activity every few minutes, so notifications keep arriving.
- Low priority — rarely used services. They quiet down quickly and are checked less often to keep your computer fast.
The result is a balance: the services you rely on most stay instant, while ones you touch rarely do not slow your machine down. Notification-critical services such as Gmail, your phone line, Google Messages, ntfy, and Element are set to high priority out of the box.
Adjusting notifications for a service
If your setup allows changes, you can move a service to a higher or lower priority to control how quickly it notifies you:
- Open Settings for the service you want to change.
- Set its priority to High, Normal, or Low.
- Save. High keeps it always-on for instant alerts; Low keeps it quiet and light.
Note: On some company-managed installs these settings are locked so everyone gets a consistent, tuned experience. If you cannot change a priority, that is expected — contact your administrator if you need it adjusted.
The check-in rotation
MokoHub includes a built-in check-in rotation — a gentle, scheduled reminder to glance at a specific service at set times during the day. It is designed to keep you on top of the channels people use to reach you without having to remember to look.
In the standard setup, the rotation runs between 9:00 AM and 9:00 PM and alternates its focus by the hour:
- Odd hours point you at your phone service (calls and SMS).
- Even hours point you at your email (Gmail).
This way, across the day you naturally cycle between checking messages and checking email, and nothing important sits unseen for long. The rotation is part of your MokoHub configuration, so the exact hours and which services are included can be tailored by your organization.
The broadcast banner
Sometimes your organization needs to reach everyone at once — a planned maintenance window, an outage notice, or an important reminder. MokoHub can show these as a broadcast banner across the top of the app.
Broadcasts arrive through ntfy, a lightweight notification service, and appear the moment they are published — no need to refresh. Each banner is color-coded by importance:
- Information — a routine notice or update.
- Warning — something to be aware of, such as upcoming maintenance.
- Critical — an urgent message that stays pinned and cannot be dismissed until it is cleared.
To clear a banner, click the X on the right side. Information and warning banners can be dismissed this way. Critical banners have no dismiss button by design — they remain visible until the announcement is withdrawn, so an urgent notice is never accidentally missed.
The broadcast banner is an opt-in feature. If your organization has not enabled it, you simply will not see any banners — that is normal and nothing is wrong.
What about release notes?
Earlier versions of the app had a "What is new?" button for release notes. That feature has been removed. MokoHub still keeps itself up to date automatically in the background — you do not need to check a changelog to stay current.
Quick reference
- Unread badges appear on service tiles in the sidebar the moment new activity arrives.
- High-priority services notify in real time; normal and low-priority ones are checked periodically to save resources.
- The check-in rotation nudges you toward your phone on odd hours and email on even hours, roughly 9 AM to 9 PM.
- Broadcast banners deliver company-wide announcements; critical ones stay pinned until cleared.
If notifications are not arriving as you expect, first confirm the service is signed in and its priority is set appropriately. If a broadcast banner or the check-in rotation is not behaving as described, your organization may have customized or disabled it — reach out to your administrator for the details of your specific setup.
